Josephine advises on a range of both hard and soft intellectual property rights, being involved in all aspects of IP protection strategy, enforcement and dispute resolution.

She has worked with a number of high profile clients, in particular in the retail, luxury goods and entertainment sectors and regularly advises those clients in respect of proceedings before the UK courts and the UK and Community trade mark registries.

Josephine’s experience includes:

  • Advising a well-known US fashion brand on its European trade mark prosecution strategy and challenging third party trade mark applications and registrations at the Community registry.
  • Acting for Sky in connection with a successful trade mark infringement and passing off action against Microsoft in relation to Microsoft’s “SkyDrive” product.
  • Advising Sky on its ongoing dispute with Skype and successfully opposing numerous trade mark applications for SKYPE at the Community and UK registries.
  • Advising a major music company in relation to the application of copyright term extension to previously unreleased 1960s sound recordings.

Josephine has written numerous articles for client and external publications, with a particular focus on soft IP rights in the entertainment sector.

Josephine has a degree and a Masters in Law from Trinity College, Dublin and is currently studying for a Masters in UK, EU and US Copyright Law at King’s College London.
